How does laughter impact your relationship communication?

It comes easily to my son, Logan. It’s his superpower. He was a guest on the 50th episode of this podcast, and today I’m bringing you his episode from the archives. You’ll hear:

  1. Logan’s elopement story and the advantages and disadvantages that come with eloping
  2. Why laughter is a great choice for your relationship conflict resolution
  3. How our pets teach us about unconditional love

When responsibilities collide

“How do you and your wife share chores?” I asked him. Aside from sharing the cooking, their chores largely break down to inside and outside. He takes care of outside chores and she takes care of inside chores.

Recently, however, his wife plopped the recycling (collected inside) smack dab in the middle of the garage (stored outside).

The liminal land where responsibilities collide.

Why laughter is better

At first, my son looked at the recycle. Truly just plopped there. Message sent: “My task is now yours.”

He started to laugh. Then he went inside, “I guess you just get to dump your job into my territory,” he said to his wife.

“It was funny,” he assured me. No irritation in his voice. Life and love are better when you can see the humor.

That is his gift: he sees the humor in everything. It’s a life choice.

When he went inside to talk about the dumping of responsibilities he got to genuinely laugh. Think how differently they are building routines than if he’d shouted, “Hey! This isn’t fair!”
