Today I talk with Dr. Lynda Ulrich, who founded the Goodness Exchange to spread more positive news and bypass all the negative noise. In this episode, you’ll hear:
- The 4 steps to more joy and less fear that come straight from Dr. Lynda’s book: Happiness is an Option: Thriving Instead of Surviving in the Era of the Internet.
- How the “lover” aspect of Dr. Lynda’s relationship was ignited when she followed her passion to create the Goodness Exchange.
- A habit that will help you pause before you react so you can better communicate with your partner.
Change the way you feel when you change what you look at
Perspective is the lens through which we view life. When you change your perspective, you change everything.
Dr. Lynda takes us through a beautiful progression of how to change our perspective. Her tutorial has four steps:
1. Pause
When you notice that your perspective is waning, pause.
When you notice that you’re having a feeling you don’t want, pause.
Pause because no feeling lasts forever.
2. Ignore
Purposely ignore what isn’t serving you.
Ignore what doesn’t match your value system. When you give attention it will only grow and grow.
This isn’t easy, right?
But in our world there is so much information thrown at you, so it’s a critical skill to focus on what builds your value system rather than tearing it down.

3. Seek
After you paused, and you purposefully ignored that thing you don’t want to foster in your life, then seek to find what you truly do want to see.
The reason that Dr. Lynda’s life is filled with positivity and hope is not because she’s naturally such a hopeful person. The reason she is so optimistic is because she is constantly determined to seek things that lift her up.
When we seek things that match our values, our life becomes filled with things that serve those values.
4. Share
My biggest take away is to share what is most valuable. This draws people who value similar things closer to you.
When you share things that matter to you, you inbed those values deeper in yourself as well as draw people to you who share those values.
Try this:
This weeks habit for your happily ever is to create a virtuous cycle that feeds your value system. Don’t take the click bait that puts you into a vicious cycle.
Realize that no feeling last forever. This is the PAUSE Dr. Lynda told us about. It sounds so tiny how could it possibly make a difference in your relationship, but this PAUSE is EVERYTHING!
