Why is it so difficult to receive love?
In my private coaching practice, clients regularly discover they haven’t been receiving love because they have a wall built to keep love out.
Why would anyone want to keep love out? Well, many, many people don’t feel WORTHY of love. When you don’t feel worthy of love, amazingly enough, love can’t find you.
Mariah Edgington has reverse-engineered this process. She started with her affirmation alphabet.
Change your self-talk to be able to receive love
When Mariah didn’t feel worthy of love, it was because she was still listening to the voices of her childhood bullies. They told her she wasn’t enough.
She had to change these thoughts in order to open herself up to receive love. When she heard something negative like, “You’re dumb,” she looked for the opposite, “I’m smart.”
I see what Mariah did as a 3 Step Process:
- She wanted to receive love: this is a vulnerable thing to do
- In order to receive love, you need to allow yourself to see the opportunities where people are offering love
- Most importantly, you need to let yourself feel worthy of love. Worthiness is a prerequisite to allowing and/or receiving
So, how can you open yourself up to receive love? Mariah’s reverse engineering says:
- Concentrate on feeling worthy using “I am” statements
- Then look for opportunities where love might live and turn on the faucet of allowing love to flow your way
- Then you will be ready for the vulnerable work of truly RECEIVING love
